The Elderly Nutrition Program and the Home Delivered Meals program is a program that provides congregant meals at the Barstow Senior Center, and Home Delivered Meals to homebound senior citizens in our community and throughout the High Desert. Without these services, many of our senior citizens would not have at least one nutritious meal a day. Right now, there is a waiting list of over 300 people for Home Delivered Meals. This is a HUGE undertaking, and takes much co-ordination and manpower.
These programs are partially funded by San Bernardino County, but they do not provide all the resources necessary to run a program of this size. Donations to the Senior Nutrition and the Meals on Wheels program are critical to the program’s success. If you would like to support these necessary programs in Barstow and throughout the High Desert, please donate to the Barstow Senior Nutrition Program. You can call 760-256-9111 for more information.
IN 2014, 5.7 MILLION ADULTS 60+ WERE FOOD INSECURE, WITH 4.5 MILLION MORE FACING THE THREAT OF HUNGER
Studies show that food-insecure seniors are at increased risk of poorer health and chronic conditions, including diabetes and heart disease. With the senior population projected to double by 2050, it is more critical than ever that we invest in our nation’s nutrition assistance programs to strengthen their safety net.
Nutrition assistance helps at-risk seniors and their families stretch their budgets to ease the burden of choosing between buying food and paying for other necessities, such as medicine, rent and utilities. Every day, communities nationwide are leveraging government supports, volunteers and charitable giving to reach older Americans who struggle with these challenges.
Please help ease these challenges by donating to the Barstow Senior
Nutrition Program so that we may keep feeding senior citizen’s at congregant settings throughout the High Desert, and with our Meals on Wheels program throughout the High Desert.
